Year 11 Science

Subject Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr S. Sharma.

Year 11 Science enables students to develop knowledge and a coherent understanding of the living, material and physical Sciences. It also encourages students to develop investigative skills and provides opportunities for students to develop the attitudes on which scientific investigation depend. The course also helps to develop students’ interest in and understanding of the knowledge and processes of Science which form the basis of many future careers. This course covers all three of the major Sciences: Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

This course covers the two major Sciences required for a future career in Engineering and Health Sciences: Physics and Chemistry. It provides practical and theoretical experience for students who wish to pursue a future career in Engineering and Health Sciences. There are 3 internal standards that have a total credit value of 12 credits. There are two 4 credit external standards which will be assessed in the end of the year NCEA Level 1 External Exams. Overall there are 20 credits at Level 1, offered in this course.
