Year 13 Chemistry
Subject Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr S. Sharma.
Year 13 Chemistry enables students to develop knowledge and a coherent understanding of the material world. It also encourages students to develop investigative skills and provides opportunities for students to develop the attitudes on which scientific investigation depend. The course also helps to develop students’ interest in and understanding of the knowledge and processes of Chemistry which form the basis of many future careers. It provides practical and theoretical experience for students who wish to pursue a future career in the Health Sciences/Engineering/Chemistry. There are 4 internal standards that have a total credit value of 13 credits. There is one 5 credit external standard which will be assessed in the end of the year NCEA Level 3 External Exams. Overall there are 18 credits at Level 3, offered in this course.
Subject Overview
Term 1
CHEM 3.2 (91388): Demonstrate understanding of spectroscopic data in chemistry
CHEM 3.7 (91393): Demonstrate an Understanding of Oxidation-Reduction Processes
Term 2
CHEM 3.4 (91390): Demonstrate Understanding of Thermochemical principles and the properties of particles and substances
Term 3
CHEM 3.1 (91387): Carry out an investigation in chemistry involving quantitative analysis
CHEM AS3.3 (91389) Demonstrate understanding of chemical processes in the world around us
Recommended Prior Learning
Year 12 (NCEA Level 2) Chemistry
