Year 13 Sports Science

Subject Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr M. Jarvis.

Students will need to research and explain a current physical event, trend or issue.  By using these findings students will draw conclusions about it impact or potential impact on New Zealand society.

The practical achievement standard requires students to demonstrate quality performance of a physical activity in an applied setting.

Students will then be asked to examine a performance improvement programme by using biophysical principles and social-cultural factors to make judgements about the effectiveness of the programme.

Finally students will examine personal physical activity experiences to date and consider the influences on and reasons for participation in physical activity experiences. Students will make judgements about the relationship between the experiences: and the potential impact of the experiences on lifelong well-being.  Students will use these judgements as a basis for devising strategies for lifelong well-being.
