Year 12 Chemistry

12CHE
Subject Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr S. Sharma.

Recommended Prior Learning

Year 11 (Level 1 Science)

- AS 1.5 (90944): Demonstrate an understanding of the aspects of Acids and Bases

- C 1.1 (90930): Carry out a practical Chemistry investigation, with direction

Year 12 Chemistry enables students to develop knowledge and a coherent understanding of the material world. It also encourages students to develop investigative skills and provides opportunities for students to develop the attitudes on which scientific investigation depend. The course also helps to develop students’ interest in and understanding of the knowledge and processes of Chemistry which form the basis of many future careers. It provides practical and theoretical experience for students who wish to pursue a future career in the Health Sciences/Engineering/Chemistry.  There are 3 internal standards that have a total credit value of 10 credits. There is two external standards that have a total credit value of 9 credits which will be assessed in the end of the year NCEA Level 2 External Exams. Overall there are 19 credits at Level 2, offered in this course.
